JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman pleaded no contest and was sentenced to probation Friday on charges she left her 2-year-old daughter alone for 21/2 weeks while she was in jail.
Dakeysha Lee, 23, had been charged with child abuse and child neglect and could have received up to 10 years in prison. She was sentenced to 1 1/2 years of probation.
Her daughter, Breanna Janay Lee, now 3, was found by the toddler’s father in September 2003 lying nude in a baby’s bathtub watching TV. She was caked with dried ketchup and jelly, and the floor was covered in broken eggs, urine and feces.
Police said Breanna ate dry pasta from a pantry and may have gotten water out of the toilet to survive.
After the toddler was hospitalized for two days, authorities granted temporary custody to her father, Ogden Lee, who was on duty with the Navy and is separated from his wife.
