EVERETT – I-5 will be closed for a third straight night in Everett tonight so the girders that will become the new 41st Street SE overpass can be set into place.
The state had hoped to finish its work Tuesday night and early this morning, but delays in getting equipment into place Monday thwarted that plan, said Travis Phelps, a spokesman for the state Department of Transportation.
“We were slow,” he said. “We wanted to be careful for safety’s sake.”
The freeway will be closed from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., and traffic will be detoured around the construction area.
The contractor placed two girders Monday night. The goal was to place five a night, Phelps said.
The I-5 closure could include Thursday night as well if there are additional delays, Phelps said.
