Worker injured when power line short-circuits

EVERETT – A man was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle Friday after being zapped by a live wire in an electrical accident that lit up the night sky.

Everett Fire officials said the man, believed to be in his 30s, was stable and alert before he was taken by helicopter to Harborview.

The accident occurred about 6:55 p.m. in the 3800 block of Pine Avenue. A crew that was contracted by the Snohomish County PUD was working on a power line when the line recoiled and short-circuited. The worker in a boom truck came in contact with the energized line, officials said.

The lights went out for about 20 minutes for several blocks around the accident, including at the Everett Events Center, fire officials said.

Lynnwood: Police arrest men for forced entry

Police arrested two men Friday who allegedly forced their way into a Lynnwood-area apartment and held three women there until one was able to call 911.

The women told Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies that the armed men came to their door about 9:40 a.m. Friday, deputy Rich Niebusch said. The women said they did not know the men.

“They took over the apartment and said they wanted drugs or money or both,” Niebusch said. “They looked through the apartment and didn’t find what they were looking for.”

The men apparently allowed one of the women to use the phone at some point, he said. She called 911.

Police arrested one man coming out of the front door of the apartment in the 15500 block of 40th Avenue W. The other was found a short distance away by a sheriff’s dog and arrested.

Both men were arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and robbery. The incident is under investigation.

A head-on crash early Friday closed Highway 2 near Snohomish for several hours, police said.

A pickup headed west went off the road to the right, then overcorrected, according to the Washington State Patrol. The pickup crossed the centerline and hit a dump truck, the patrol reported. The accident was reported at 5:35 a.m.

The pickup driver, 42, of Monroe, was taken to Providence Everett Medical Center’s Colby campus, where he was in stable condition Friday evening. The driver may have had a medical condition that affected his driving, troopers said.

Edmonds: Police search for suspect in robbery

A scruffy-looking man robbed the Bank of Washington Friday, getting away with an undisclosed amount of cash, police reported.

The man entered the bank at 303 Fifth Ave. about noon. He presented a handwritten note to the teller that read, “This is a robbery.” The man then demanded cash, which he placed into his pants pocket, Edmonds police reported.

The man fled on foot. No weapon was seen and no one was hurt during the crime.

The man is described as white, about 45 to 48 years old, 5 feet 6 inches and about 145 pounds. He was wearing a large, light blue, untucked shirt or jacket, light-colored pants and a baseball cap. The man had short, dark hair and a short beard and mustache.

Witnesses further described him as having sunken cheeks and eyes, a pocked complexion and a sharp nose.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Edmonds Police Department or the local office of the FBI.
