Accused U.S. Army deserter Charles Jenkins told the Japanese government in a letter that he will visit an Army base in Japan “very shortly” and “voluntarily face the charges” against him, the government said today. Jenkins is accused of deserting from his U.S. Army unit in 1965 and defecting to North Korea. He arrived in Japan in July to be reunited with his Japanese wife, whom he met in North Korea.
Iran said Tuesday it had arrested a group of spies, including several who passed the country’s nuclear secrets to foes, the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported. Members of Mujahedeen Khalq, an armed opposition group, were the most involved, the government said.
Fiji: American WWII plane found
The wreckage of a World War II U.S. fighter plane has been found in the wild center of Fiji by a pig hunter, police said Wednesday. A police spokesman said the wreckage was believed to be from a U.S. fighter that took off from Nadi Airport in western Viti Levu in early 1942 and disappeared in the jungle-covered mountains.
