Two South Korean fighter jets collided in midair during a training exercise Tuesday, causing one to crash in a rice paddy and four air-to-air missiles to fall to the ground, the air force said. The missiles did not explode. The pilot of the crashed jet ejected safely.
India: Bus plunge kills 45
A passenger bus rolled into a gorge near a popular ski resort on Tuesday, killing at least 45 people in northern India, police said. The bus plunged 650 feet into a gorge near Kufri, police said, and reckless driving appeared to be the cause of the accident. Police said the bus driver was among the dead.
Switzerland: Miles-long trail of blood leads cops to butcher’s van
Acting on emergency calls Monday night, Swiss police hurried to a rural road in northern Switzerland where horrified motorists reported a long trail of blood — what they believed was evidence of a brutal crime. A police statement Tuesday said officers followed the blood for 12 miles to the town of Kuettigen only to find that a barrel of pork blood had overturned inside a butcher’s supply van.
Somalia: Pirates demand ransom
The owner of a Turkish ship commandeered off Somalia with 20 crew on board says pirates have demanded a ransom for its return, which he did not disclose. Pirates hijacked the Yasa Neslihan freighter last week in the Gulf of Aden, which connects the Red Sea to the Indian Ocean.
