A Turkish ferry crashed into a Ukranian-flagged cargo ship anchored offshore Monday, slightly injuring 48 ferry passengers, officials said. The ferry Salih Reis-4, although damaged, returned to dock in Istanbul shortly after the accident. Ambulances and helicopters took the injured to hospitals, the Maritime Affairs office said. A spokesman for the ferry company, said most of the injured hit their heads on seats or other objects when the boat hit the freighter Semyon Rudnev but no one suffered serious injuries.
South Korea: Fatal ferris wheel
Five family members fell 65 feet to their deaths from a Ferris wheel Monday after the car they were riding in unexpectedly overturned at an amusement park, police said. Two members of the family in the car clung to handholds and survived without injury, police said.The 216-foot-high “Giant Wheel” ride has 42 cars. It was among about 30 rides at the World Carnival mobile amusement park that opened in Busan last month for a 40-day run after arriving from Hong Kong, Yonhap reported.
Norway: Princess under fire
A leading Norwegian newspaper called on Princess Martha Louise to renounce her royal title Monday after she said she communicates with angels. The 35-year-old princess, who is fourth in line to the throne, has come under media scrutiny for her involvement in an alternative school that aims to teach people how to get in touch with angels. Martha Louise wrote on the Web site of the Astarte Education School that she had learned how to communicate with horses and talk to angels.
