GRANTS PASS, Ore. — A semitrailer carrying hydrocholoric acid has been struck by a wrong-way driver on Interstate 5 north of Grants Pass, causing the acid to spill onto the roadway.
The Oregon State Patrol says the semitrailer had been heading north on Sunday when it was struck by a vehicle going the wrong direction. The wrong-way driver was identified as Ashley Whipple, 27, who was hospitalized with minor injuries. She was cited for driving under the influence of intoxicants and released.
It is unclear whether the semitrailer driver suffered any injuries.
A hazardous materials team from Medford had responded to the scene and cleaned up the acid spill.
The northbound lanes were reopened after several hours.
