EVERETT — The president of Washington State University wants to hear from Snohomish County residents.
A town hall meeting and reception with President Elson Floyd on Tuesday is designed to gather ideas to better match WSU programs with issues local people face in their daily lives, officials said.
The event will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Monte Cristo building, 1507 Wall St.
The visit is part of a statewide tour. Floyd will spend much of the day meeting with business and community leaders.
“We are trying to structure this in such a way so people in the community have maximum chance to let him know what they think of our programs, what we are doing right and what we can do better,” said Larry Ganders, assistant to the WSU president.
Earlier this month, Floyd was the keynote speaker for an Everett Public Schools Foundation breakfast fundraiser.
He said afterward that talks have been ongoing between WSU and local officials to bring WSU engineering classes to Everett.
Everett leaders are asking WSU to provide mechanical engineering classes in town.
In a Dec. 22 letter to Floyd, Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson said the city has “repeatedly demonstrated interest, support and need for upper and advanced engineering programming.”
Everett could piggyback on a current WSU plan to bring mechanical engineering courses to Bremerton.
In the Bremerton program, Olympic College and WSU have reached an agreement to begin offering classes. Students would take two years of courses at the community college and two years through WSU.
