Community center looking for volunteers
Volunteers are needed at Stanwood Community Center, 7430 276th St. NW, Stanwood. Kitchen work, elementary school reading programs, monthly tea events and thrift store cashier duties are some of the volunteer opportunities listed.

Musical groups can sing for others’ supper
Community groups willing to share their musical talents this holiday season will be supporting local food banks and the Salvation Army.
The annual Sing from the Heart program is planned for Dec. 8 through 10 at Haggen Food &Pharmacy and TOP Food &Drug stores. The stores will make a donation of $50 for each hour a group performs holiday music. Participating organizations may designate a local food bank or the Salvation Army as the beneficiary of the donation.
Sing from the Heart will be presented at each store from 2 to 7 p.m. Dec. 8, noon to 7 p.m. Dec. 9 and noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 10. Sign-ups begin today at the guest services counter of each store.
Marysville food bank seeks new director
The Marysville Community Food Bank is looking for a new director who is task-oriented and enjoys making a difference in low-income families’ lives.
The volunteer position requires up to 20 hours a week. The director is especially needed on Tuesdays; other days are flexible. More than 60 knowledgeable volunteers and a board of directors will guide the new director. The job involves providing leadership, supervising volunteers, meeting with the public, ordering supplies, performing some banking duties, organizing operational details and pitching in where needed.

Donate cell phones to women’s shelter
Whitfields United Insurance is collecting used cell phones to benefit the Snohomish County Center for Battered Women. The phones will allow women to call 911 in an emergency. Phones with batteries and chargers are preferred. Drop off cell phones by Tuesday at any of the company’s offices in Edmonds, Everett, Marysville and Monroe.

Child car seat inspections
Child car seat checks are offered free of charge by Snohomish Fire District I. The safety checks, by appointment only, are conducted by certified child passenger safety technicians twice a month.
Appointments can be scheduled for the second Friday of each month at the Martha Lake Fire Station, 16819 13th Ave. W., or the fourth Monday of each month at the Mariner Fire Station, 12310 Meridian Ave., Everett. It takes about 30 minutes to do the check.
