EVERETT — Police are trying to identify a teenager who was severely beaten and left unconscious and bleeding on a school football field Saturday afternoon.
The victim, who appeared to be in his late teens, was airlifted from the Evergreen Middle School field, where he was found around 2:15 p.m., to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He was in critical condition Saturday night.
A lot attendant at Dwayne Lane’s Dodge on Evergreen Way was walking around the parking lot when he saw two young men standing over someone lying on the football field behind the car dealership. He was about 75 yards away, but the scene caught his attention.
"One of them was kneeling down shaking him and poking at him," he said. "At first I thought they were just messing around, but then it got rougher. Then they started looking around nervously, and I knew something had happened."
The two noticed people on nearby tennis courts and elsewhere looking at them and fled, the lot attendant said.
He sent another employee to go check on the man while he called police. When he arrived, the victim was unconscious and having trouble breathing.
The youth had been severely beaten, the lot attendant said. A helicopter landed on the football field within 10 minutes and took the youth to the hospital.
Sgt. Boyd Bryant with the Everett Police Department said there wasn’t much hard information yet, except that the victim was severely injured.
Investigators were still trying to identify the teen-ager Saturday night, as well as search for the suspects the witnesses saw on the football field.
Anyone with information about the assault is asked to call the Everett Police Department’s tip line at 425-257-8450.
