ARLINGTON — People on the west side of Arlington are being asked to provide their opinions about future development in the Smokey Point, West Bluff and Island Crossing neighborhoods.
City staff have scheduled a meeting to collect people’s thoughts this evening at the Stillaguamish Senior Center.
David Kuhl, the city’s community development director, plans to talk about long-range planning that could guide growth and development in the western part of Arlington for many decades.
Subjects organizers hope to be addressed include vehicle traffic and noise, neighborhood improvement, pedestrian safety, trails, paths and flooding. Ideas about mixed-use residential and retail development also are on the agenda.
The city has given high priority to the plans for west Arlington, Kuhl said.
“We could make this area very attractive if we plan ahead,” he said.
About 1,500 homes are located on the west side of the city, most not far from I-5.
Development that looks more like pre-1940 neighborhoods, makes good use of available land and includes building practices that use resources wisely are part of the plans that city staff are investigating, Kuhl said.
“We need citizens to be involved in this decision-making process,” he said.
