BOISE, Idaho — Zoo Boise has taken some additional security measures after a break-in that led to the beating death of a monkey.
The city’s Parks and Recreation Department confirmed to KTVB-TV that Zoo Boise added razor wire to some parts of the fence around the attraction.
Michael Watkins is charged with felony burglary and grand theft for a Nov. 17 break-in at the zoo. Prosecutors allege Watkins broke into the zoo to steal the monkey and beat it to death with a tree branch after the monkey bit him. The 22-year-old is scheduled to enter a plea during a preliminary hearing on Dec. 5.
