BELLINGHAM — U.S. Navy officials say a search and rescue helicopter retrieved an injured skier from near the summit of Mount Baker.
The Bellingham Herald reported that the 21-year-old man was skiing with a group Monday when he broke his ankle near the western face of the 10,781-foot volcano.
Whidbey Island Naval Air Station’s public affairs officer, Michael Welding, says the helicopter crew responded and spotted the group of skiers.
The injured man was hoisted on board the MH-60 Seahawk helicopter and taken to a Bellingham medical center.
Additional information about the man was not available.
