SPOKANE — Authorities have cleared three Spokane police officers who opened fire on a suspect armed with a knife last year.
KXLY reports that the Spokane County prosecutor’s office has determined that Lt. Dave McCabe, Cpl. Ron VanTassel and Officer Julian Cedeno were justified in the shooting of Terry C. Wallette in May 2017.
The officers fired shots after Wallette reportedly threatened them and others with a knife.
The prosecutors said their investigation utilized body cameras, surveillance videos and witness testimony and found no evidence that the officers acted with malice.
Prosecutors also have determined that a fourth officer at the scene who deployed a stun gun on the suspect won’t face charges either.
Wallette, after surviving the shooting, remains jailed on six counts of 2nd degree assault with a deadly weapon.
