I appreciated and agree with every one of the recent letter writer’s comments regarding the South Everett Park and Ride Lot at 112th and I would like to expand on those comments.
First, it is ridiculous for the state Department of Transportation not to allow single occupancy vehicles access via the freeway. The Route 510 bus is allegedly saving 10 minutes by not stopping at Eastmont, but by not allowing single occupancy vehicles to use the freeway for access, each rider is adding 10 minutes to his or her commute, and several hundred more commuter trips on the surface streets.
It’s true that the Park and Ride is usually full by 8 a.m. What good does it do to have the 510 bus stop at the 112th Park &Ride all day long if there is no place for people to park? In the meantime the Eastmont Park &Ride has excess parking. The last Route 513 bus serving Eastmont leaves at 7:17 a.m. The first 513 bus returning to Eastmont is at 4:36 p.m., so all day, you cannot get to Eastmont without transferring to an Everett Transit bus, which is an extra fare and adds at least another 20 to 40 minutes depending on the schedule match-up.
I seems to me that the bus that runs all day should stop at both South Everett and Eastmont, and serve Evergreen Way.
I have corresponded with Doug Zack, Customer Service Representative for Sound Transit Services Department. My impression is that there is little to no interest in listening to the commuters.
I question whether any of the decision makers and designers actually ride any of the buses.
