I would like to give a big thank you to all of the volunteers who make the Snohomish County Evergreen State Fair the greatest county fair. I would like to single out two people, though: Marilyn Anderson and Bev Segle. Marilyn and Bev had the arduous task of being the fair superintendents for the 4H horse section. They were key in pulling together all the volunteers needed to get the approximately 450 exhibitors organized along with their 500 horses – not an easy task by any means.
I was impressed as always with how people in 4H will pull together and get the job done. There are many other people who put in lots of hours with each group as they came through, Seniors, Intermediates and Juniors. Horse trailers coming in and going out. Decorations going up and coming down. Setup and take-down for the trail course, dressage and jumping. Along with keeping track of who won what.
Snohomish County has a very large 4H program of which we all should be very proud. I toured through many of the other 4H program buildings and was greeted by members eager to explain about their program whether it be swine, goats, poultry, computers or motorcycles. 4H is not about horses, dairy cows, dogs, cats or rabbits it’s about head, heart, hands and health. Happy centennial, 4H, and let’s make the next 100 years even better! With people like Marilyn, Bev and all of the other volunteers, it will be a lot of fun, too.
