A recent Larry Simoneaux’s column was quite critical of my favorite biscuits and gravy. (“Getting to the nitty gritty of food propriety”). This is coming from a man who quite likely was raised on grits and gravy. Corn meal mush and gravy can’t possbly compare to a good sausage gravy or fresh baking powder biscuits!
Also, regarding chili without beans: When I was young guy in the Navy in 1949 and our destroyer was tied up to the destroyer base in San Diego, we would often spend time off in town. On our way back to the ship we would often stop at a Chinese joint with the unlikely name of “Clyde’s Cafe.” We would have a bowl of chili without beans and it was great.
I am the age often referred to as an old geezer, but I can still remember that chili 75 years later. Just don’t ask me what I had for dinner last night!
Otherwise, keep up the good work, Larry!
