It was Opening Day for the Seattle Mariners. Jane and I went to the park.
On the bus. All by ourselves!
It was easy.
First, we ordered the baseball tickets on the computer. (Well, a friend helped us but we could have done it all by ourselves.)
Then, the very next day, we drove to the Lynnwood Park-n-Ride on I-5, actually found a place to park, waited 8 minutes, then caught the 510 express to Safeco Field. (Nobody helped us.)
On the way, we saw lots of interesting people; the bus driver was happy and very friendly (“I only work Tuesdays and Fridays, so this is my Monday!”). Five bucks per person. Round trip.
The bus dropped us at Fourth and Royal Brougham.
We got our tickets at will-call. Then we found our seats — all by ourselves!
Third base line (I recommend section 136, row 31).
We saw Ken Griffey Jr. They introduced him — right on the field. The fans went nuts. In the first inning, he got a clean single to right field — all by himself. The fans went nuts again.
We had a beer (each), some hot dogs, and the guy next to us gave us some peanuts — free.
The game went 10 innings. The L.A. Angels’ pitcher (boo-o-o) fielded a perfect bunt from a guy named Betancourt, then threw the game away by heaving the ball 5 feet over his first baseman’s head. Some Mariner scored from second.
Mariners win. The crowd goes totally nuts.
It was great. You should try it.
But take the bus. Consider a season pass. It’s fun.
