Regarding the Friday article, “Union’s proposed contract for county workers draws ire“: It’s quite evident that the greed amongst the union is never ending. Their “demand” for a bonus while the county budget is tight is par for the course and ridiculous. They should be thankful that they have jobs.
There are hundreds of people praying from day to day that they keep their jobs in this slow economy. Many haven’t seen a cost of living raise in three to four years. Many are paying higher taxes, higher medical costs themselves or going without any medical coverage. Our financial budget is the same if not worse than in 2009. This is a time for everyone to stick together and tighten their belts — including the unions.
Oh, I get it, they want their “payment” to be squeezed from the already shrunken budgets affecting our students, schools, and our senior citizens — again! Believe me, I know what I’m talking about as I lost my job of 15 years in April and am paying for my own medical coverage. It’s time for our county leaders to set an example and to say “no.” It’s also time for the union to have their own reality check.
