Have you heard/read the news? The news that the Iraqis are taking over the security from the U.S. Marines in al Anbar provice, the 10th province to attain this level of stability. The al Anbar province was pronounced lost and destined to dissolve into chaos two years ago by those against success and hopefulness in Iraq. Fallujah, Karmah and Ramadi are just a few cities to name in this province that stretches all the way to the Syrian border. Have you heard/read about the parades, the soccer games and the marketplace activity where common complaints of not enough electricity are hot topics?
Cpl. Jeff Starr is my son. His life was cut short by a sniper in Ramadi in May 2005, when he was on his third tour. I celebrate the success in Ramadi so much it brings me to tears to know that my son shares in this victory with these folks from another land. He left a letter about freedom and helping these people, and his letter should remind us on this week of fireworks, barbecues and gatherings to remember our freedoms this Fourth of July, that freedom isn’t free.
