In response to the article about the closed meeting regarding the Jackson High School girls basketball program (Jan. 11):
I am shocked by what these few parents are accusing the coach of doing. I have known Coach Julie Iverson for more than 20 years. My family supports the team because she is our friend and we enjoy watching basketball. Coach Iverson is honest, dedicated, fair, respectful and adores her players. I have seen past players come back to Jackson to see their coach again. They have respect for each other. If the program is as bad as these parents are saying, why do former players come back to see her? Another question to the parents in this meeting with current players: How can you let your daughters play for a program you think is so bad?
I believe putting the article in The Herald is not breaking news but seems to be a clear case of someone being vindictive. The article is bigger than most written about Jackson’s games. This put a damper on the season and places the program under a magnifying glass. Iverson should be able to coach her team confidently with support from parents.
All the coaches do a terrific job. I am proud of Coach Iverson as a leader, person and above all, a friend. I know she believes in her team and cares for each of these girls. She is not the type of person to do or let any of the accusations occur. Many of us are showing support by writing to the Everett school board and superintendent and telling them how we feel about Coach Iverson and the Jackson program. I hope the girls can get past this situation by continuing to play hard and compete in a positive matter as Coach Iverson has always instructed them to do.
