As a student at Cascade High School almost of voting age, I have been paying more and more attention to the ongoing campaigns. One thing that stands out is the increasing amount of negative television commercials supported by various candidates.
Not only are these commercials so frequent that they become bothersome, but for the most part all they accomplish is slamming their opponent. The negative campaign ads do not display the views of those who it is sponsored by because the time is filled with reasons why we shouldn’t vote for their opponent. What is even better is when you see one of these commercials and only a few minutes later, you see the same candidate who was being ripped down suddenly attack right back.
This doesn’t seem like mature politics, but rather a silly quarrel between children. I don’t understand why candidates can’t focus on their own views instead of dwelling on the negative actions of their opponent. If I could give them a little advice, I would remind them of what my mother has constantly told me: “Two wrongs don’t make a right. Take the high road.”
