While I agree with Kent Hendricks (Letters, Sept. 21 “Referendum 51: Does little to reduce road congestion”) on the need for people to become informed about Referendum 51 by visiting the WSDOT Web site, I completely disagree with him on what citizens will find there. Adding lanes to I-5 through Everett; adding lanes to Highway 9 from Lake Stevens to Woodinville; improving rail and bus facilities for commuters; fixing Everett’s 41st Street interchange mess; and finally connecting 132nd Street to Highway 9 will be quite an accomplishment. All for the $45 a year drivers will be askd to pay. Not to mention finally fixing the safety menace known as Highway 522 between Woodinville and Monroe. There’s more to the list, but the advantages to Snohomish County citizens is quite apparent.
True, it will not solve all of our problems, but it is a very good start. Please remember, doing nothing only means that the same problems will be there next year, with the price of solutions only going up.
