The U.S. needs to make an effective response to the recent terrorist attacks, something that has not been done over the last 20-odd years. One aspect of this effective response will be to show a humanitarian concern for the people of the region who have to live with both a poor economy and un-elected, bad governments. Afghanistan has endured 30-plus years of warfare and a three-year drought. The first military operation in that region should be a massive food drop. This would do more good than all the bombs in our arsenals and would cost a lot less.
