Three cheers for state and local lawmakers making voting as easy as possible, including election day registration and voting, though they could make election day a state holiday. (“Voting is now about as easy as it’s going to get,” The Herald, Aug. 15)
Of course now it is up to us to do our part and vote. In fact, we don’t have to wait for opportunities to vote to speak up to our representatives. Both U.S. Reps. Rick Larsen and Suzan DelBene hold public events. The results of such opportunities are a new bill for creating more affordable housing (along with Sen. Maria Cantwell) as an important step in dealing with the housing crisis. Thanking them for this work is appropriate.
Rep. DelBene also helped insure the Working Families Tax Relief Act of 2019 moves forward in the House. This bill will benefit millions of struggling Americans, a true ladder out of poverty.
So take advantage of the opportunity to communicate with those who represent you and then definitely vote, our responsibility in a democracy.
