Agency must answer queries

It seems that many readers consider what the IRS has done to be perfectly acceptable. One reader recently expressed his opinion that they need to do more of the same to those “hate” groups. Reading this is astonishing on many levels and for those of you who agree with the IRS, then shame on you. It should scare the heck out of you that a government entity can use such tactics to intimidate and punish those who may disagree with you on an ideological or political level. Toleration of this abuse is accepting it. Once accepted, it’s only a matter of time when the list of targets will grow and include something you may find yourself under the same scrutiny.

Perhaps they can target Move-On.org or some other left wing group, would it be acceptable then? Somehow I think not. Right now Congress has the power and authority, further — the obligation to apply the same tactics the IRS practices on law-abiding citizens. The IRS has refused to respond to the allegations and demands of Congress. Effective immediately, I ask all of our representatives to shut the IRS down until complete compliance to the records and requests from Congress are fulfilled. It’s time to bring the administration to answer to the people. The end justifies the means, a tactic that those of you who agree with the IRS are all too used to. For those of you who agree with the IRS, your turn is coming. When it does I will be the first to cry foul because my principles demand it. But at the same time, your hypocrisy will be exposed.

EMBARGO set by source.** House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, (D-NY) speaks at a news conference about Republicans’ potential budget cuts to Medicaid, at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, Feb. 27, 2025. As Republicans push a budget resolution through Congress that will almost certainly require Medicaid cuts to finance a huge tax reduction, Democrats see an opening to use the same strategy in 2026 that won them back the House in 2018.
