What price family values? In Everett, apparently it is $32,000. That is the amount to be added to city coffers by the sale of alcohol on our public golf courses. A recreational, athletic, competitive, family activity corrupted into one more opportunity for alcohol consumption.
Alcohol and tobacco abuse have contributed to more death and family pain than is necessary and our city should not foster an activity that destroys families, regardless of the revenue. If a golfer can’t play a round of golf without a drink, then they need counseling. What next, booze at the soccer and baseball games?
What hypocrisy to tout the “First Tee” children’s golf program as character building and great for role modeling when we consider exposing them to an atmosphere that promotes alcohol use in athletics.
Thank you, Councilman Bob Overstreet, for speaking up for and supporting family values in Everett. Keep alcohol in the bar, not on the fairways.
