Regarding the Sept. 28 letter, “What is profound about a frog?”:
The letter writer only displays her own ignorance. I take exception on two points:
1. Throughout history, storytellers have taught sobering and profound lessons using animals and even plants. One example: Jesus teaching, “Consider the lilies of the field and the birds in the air …” Certainly Alice Walker, highly respected, critically acclaimed contemporary author and Pulitzer Prize winner, might make a significant point in a similar manner. Alice Walker far surpasses the designation: “Hollywood celebrity.”
2. Life is profound. All living beings are profound and sacred, even frogs. The letter writer denounces the story without reading it. In my opinion, that is profane.
