As a long-time letter to the editor reader, I must now take issue with so many taking issue. Be it politics, immigrants, inflation, pollution, housing, race, on and on, we all have some problem that someone else needs to fix.
When I was a kid penny-candy was just that, but now it would cost a dime. The wage/inflation spiral thing has gone on forever. Immigration issue, the question is where did your ancestors come from, and why? Political concerns? Who owns your politician?
If you lived the life that so many others in this old world live, you’d be sneaking across the Canadian border seeking a better life. Do you think it’s going to get better with our ever-growing population?
What is the root cause of every issue? People! The problem is longer life; it was 58 years for women, and 61 for men back in 1922. And we seem to believe that the future will be the same as the one we currently live in, the we need to make more kids. Look up population changes and you might note a bit of escalation in those hundred years.
Mankind would be better thought of as human locusts. We are devouring the earth, and when we have gobbled up more than it can sustain, well then take issue that you were part of the demise.
Recall that Robert Louis Stevenson quote from “Treasure Island”: “Them what dies will be the lucky ones.” It appears that he was talking about the future of your offspring if you fail to see the root cause. Someone else has to fix that.
