I was watching the dog show on TV recently. I don’t care much for dog shows, but my wife does.
I’ve only had one dog, Delta, that could even look through the door of a dog show — but she couldn’t be bothered with those uptown dogs, she had a real job … taking care of me.
I started thinking: I’m old. Boys don’t have dogs anymore, they have computers. What a shame. Who but your dog can you walk down the street with you and they agree with everything you say — right or wrong? Who else can you tell about your lost love and thinks you’re the best singer in the world? Have you ever shared an ice cream with your dog and he thought it tasted as good as you did — besides, he always got the last bite.
And you haven’t lived until you got a full face kiss from your dog and you knew it was given with all the love he had. And who else would gladly give up his life for you without so much as a second thought?
Computers are great, but me — I’ll take a dog any day.
