There is no word in any human language as obscene as the act of tearing a child from the mother’s arms.
Samantha Bee is a comedian and satirist. Her only “weapons” are words. In her attempt to tackle what has become the routine policy of this nation to separate children from their parents, she essentially went nuclear. To the extent that it turned the discussion away from the act she was attempting to expose, and onto the word she used, she failed at her task. This is highly regrettable.
With regard to the word she used, its constant use against Hillary Clinton during the election (including the sale of T-shirts using it at “official” Trump events), as well as Trump’s documented use of it in reference to other women, I do not think it would be fair to judge Samantha Bee’s use of it too harshly. Ted Nugent repeatedly used the word in reference to Clinton and even advocated using a machine gun on the area of her body that word vulgarly represents. He got a special invitation to a dinner at the White House when Trump took office.
