I am a seventh grade student at Gateway Middle School. I’m writing to inform you about some of the current working conditions of people in China working for Apple Corporation contractors.
I believe this matter is very important. Did you know a working man or woman in a factory here in the U.S. earns about $28 per hour? In China they only earn about $2 per hour for the same level of work. Most if not all of the factory workers only see part of the iPads or iPhones, they just see the part they build and never see the finished product. People have been killed by explosions and exposure to chemicals in Chinese factories where Apple products are made.
The people who work for some Apple contractors only see their families about once a month if they are lucky. People also live in very crowded dormitories with up to eight other people. Where some live they actually have suicide nets outside of the windows because so many people have tried to commit suicide. Why would anyone want to commit suicide? One simple answer is they hate their life and hate working for Apple contractors. Apple gives many, many people jobs but I think they could improve on how their Chinese contractors treat their employees.
