Regarding Ken White’s March 12 letter to the editor, headlines, “It’s not PC, but simple respect.” He wrote that “And To Think that It Happened on Mulberry Street” showing an Asian wearing a conical hat, using chopsticks and eating from a bowl” is dehumanizing and used by white supremacists. However, when I eat in a Chinese restaurant I am given food in a bowl and chopsticks. I Googled conical hats and found multiple references to Asians and Vietnamese still making and wearing conical hats.
We do all people a disservice when we presume to know what is offensive to them. Down with the current cancel culture!
