I read with interest the Jan. 20 article on opening the HOV lanes to all traffic from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Apparently, I-5 is not being included in this plan due to the fact that it would cost too much money to make the lane “safe.”
Uh – excuse me? Are they talking about that lane that I only use when I have my wife and four beautiful children in my car? Are they talking about the lane that articulated buses – crammed to standing-room-only capacity – travel along at 60 mph, hundreds of times per day? Is that the lane they are saying would “cost too much to make safe?”
I really hope that this is just another one of the state’s many ridiculous excuses for not doing the right thing. But just in case it’s not, I think I’ll stick to the fast lane from now on when I am conveying my most precious cargo.
