Around the coaching world with Dennis Erickson

It’s time to reminisce as we head into a weekend of football. First, Everett’s own Dennis Erickson returns to Pullman to face the Cougars with the Arizona State Sun Devils — the current stop in his world coaching tour. We’ll take ASU to win by more than the 9-point spread.

For Erickson, who coached at WSU for two years, going to Pullman is like coming home again. But he also feels that way in Moscow, Idaho; Laramie, Wyo.; Miami, Fla.; Corvallis, Ore.; Seattle and San Francisco.

There are still 144 major colleges and pro teams he hasn’t coached yet, but Erickson said in spring that Arizona State is his last stop. Much laughter ensued.

Then on Sunday, the Seahawks roll into a hostile environment as an underdog against the Steelers. It’s just like Super Bowl XL, but without the Rolling Stones, so there are higher hopes for the halftime show.

In Pittsburgh, fans like to wave yellow towels — an obvious salute to the referees whose yellow hankies handed them the Super Bowl two years ago. We’ll take the Seahawks, the 6 points, and some extra satisfaction if the Hawks win. But we’ll never buy that holding penalty on Sean Locklear.
