The Herald’s front page article in the Jan. 22 paper on local women visiting Cuba absolutely sickened me (“State residents explore fresh ties with Cuba”). I can’t imagine any American being proud of having a picture taken with Fidel Castro.
To go into the details of this wonderful visit, including the fantastic luncheon menu, is beyond my understanding. Don’t these women know the history of Castro’s regime and the untold suffering that it has produced? Why, oh why, are our tax dollars supporting a junket of this kind? And it took 40 women to go and participate in this farce? I was thrilled to learn that Castro offered his limo to take our senator to the airport. This article must be one of the most offensive The Herald has ever printed. I am ashamed and embarrassed.
