Regarding the Thursday letter, “Art necessary to society, economy“: Would any taxpayer who works for a living please raise their hand if anything in the letter makes any sense? It sounds to me as if he believes artists should be on permanent unemployment compensation. Yes, artwork is nice to look at — if you have an interest in it. But it most certainly isn’t a requirement in society. Just like anything else, if there’s a need or desire for it, society will buy it and he can make a living at it. If not enough people are buying his art, he’ll get hungry or thrown out on the street and go get a job doing something else.
