Many people I know agree with the Sept. 5 letter to the editor, “Not standing shows disrespect,” referring to football players Michael Bennett and Colin Kaepernick not standing for the national anthem as somehow being disrespectful and unpatriotic toward our military and veterans.
As a Marine combat veteran who served in Vietnam, what I find disrespectful is a president who has insulted thousands of former POWs by basically calling them cowards for getting captured. He also said he was smarter than all the generals. In a 1990s interview he said that avoiding catching sexually transmitted diseases during the 1960s was his personal Vietnam.
If you believe that Bennett and Kaepernick are unpatriotic and disrespectful and our president is not, then you are a hypocrite.
