I don’t know where letter writer Kathi Cooley of Monroe has been all these years but her recent venomous attack on “The Good Ole Boys” is tragic. The “Good Ole Boys” are responsible for a lot of good things for Monroe. For instance: Fred Meyer, Galaxy Theater, Frylands Industrial Park (which employs a lot of local people), Frylands Housing Development, Frylands Boulevard, Senior Center land and the Boys and Girls Club. This is bad?
She also brought up the subject of a supposedly unlawful meeting of “The Good Ole Boys.” Mark and Meredith Mechling brought a lawsuit against “The Good Ole Boys” and lost. Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Anita Farris ruled the defendants did not violate the open public meeting act. The Mechlings’ lawsuit cost Monroe many thousands of dollars. For what? Personal satisfaction, maybe.
“The Good Ole Boys” put out a local newsletter to inform Monroe residents of what is going on and what is to happen. The current counsel voted to discontinue this letter! This leaves the public with one view, the Monroe Monitor, which abides by the wishes of the council. Council members Wayne Rodland, Ken Berger and Donetta Walser didn’t vote for this. Seems to me the council members (minus the three mentioned above) only want the citizens to know what they want them to know. This is right?
Kathi Cooley should wake up and smell the roses. Her attack is unjustified, but this is America. You can voice your opinion whether it is right or wrong. It is better to be right. Thank the good Lord for that.
