On Sunday, Aug. 11 Turning Point Community Church hosted its fourth annual Church in the Park outreach. After the church service, free school supplies were distributed, free haircuts for children were offered, and a free barbecue was enjoyed by all in attendance. There was also a “Feats of Strength” program given by our youth group and a concert by our worship band, Stones Cry.
The purpose of this letter is to publicly acknowledge and thank the local businesses who shared with us this opportunity to meet the needs of many within our community. We gave out school supplies to approximately 750 students and we fed 1,000.
While we had 28 businesses and professionals contributing time, talent and money to this event, a few merit a special thank you. Chris, the Assistant Store Manager of Walmart, his stockman, Wilbur, and sales associate, Peg gave us approximately three hours of asistance while we were buying a major portion of the balance of school supplies still needed. We deeply appreciate their efforts. World Vision, through its Gifts in Kind program, donated an abundance of binders, pens and highlighters. Smokey Point Food Pavilion donated over 80 pounds of potato salad and bowls. Justin from Rite-Aid in Mukilteo was instrumental in getting us pens and spiral notebooks. United Rental provided chairs at no charge. Brian Kelly and Stephanie Cordle from The Herald did a wonderful write-up of our event.
And finally, the hair stylists who stood in the hot sun for 2 1/2 hours giving ‘back-to-school’ haircuts. They are Van and Mai-Linh from Mai-Lynn Hair Design, Julia and Gabrielle from Hair Masters, Jerad from Hope’s Hair Gallery, and Rochelle, D.J. and Karen from Randy’s Sports Cuts and Deanne and Dawn from the Competition also provided us with coupons redeemable for free haircuts.
Our hope is that this event was a blessing to our community.
Thank you, again.
