In response to Linda Day’s Sept. 7 letter bemoaning police posing as construction workers (“Construction Crews: Cops posing as roadworkers is wrong”): For years they have been posing as druggies to arrest drug dealers; of late, they pose as children to arrest child pornographers. That’s just a couple examples, so the precedent is well established.
I am a traffic control person and can attest to the road rage and plain bad attitudes of too many drivers. It’s about time WSP and other enforcement agencies step up to protect those of us doing our job on the highways. In my six years of roadwork, I have seen unbelievable behavior which just gets worse and worse.
My only complaint concerning this new effort is why bother to set up a phony work zone? There are plenty of real ones out there. Usually private contractors have to pay to have police present. By using existing work zones, the double penalty could be enforced and maybe there would be some reduction in the deaths and injuries to which we workers are constantly exposed.
