Poor planning, inadequate foresight and scant attention to details in the issuing of permits by the county has resulted in Camano and Whidbey residents having to pay hundreds of thousands of tax dollars to subsidize developers.
I am referring to the Thunder Ridge and Cavalero Hills boondoggle now in the process of being “corrected” by a huge construction project, mostly at taxpayers’ expense. This construction involves building a culvert under East Camano Drive to divert the “excess” drainage (rainwater) into Port Susan Bay. These millions of gallons of water would normally replenish the Camano aquifers, our sole water source.
Although this is costing us hundreds of thousands in tax dollars it is not enhancing our natural water supply.
I understand that individual lots in Thunder Ridge have their own sewer drainfields. I would be concerned if I had a well in the vicinity. It is apparent that the only rainwater that reaches the aquifer must go through these drainfields. The discharge into Port Susan Bay should be tested on a weekly basis, in my opinion.
