Regarding The Herald’s editorial endorsement of a third term for Barbara Bailey: I have talked to Ms. Bailey many times and she has never come off as an informed person to me. Let me highlight a few examples:
1. In campaign literature, Bailey stated her core values got her through her first session in Olympia. When I called to ask her what her values are, she refused to talk about them.
2. I asked Bailey about bringing drugs from Canada to lower the cost to Washington citizens. She stated that the experts had told her Canadian drugs were dangerous. I asked what experts? Bailey’s response was the drug company representatives were her experts on this topic.
3. I asked Bailey why she didn’t support the new gas tax because so many constituents were having trouble getting to I-5. Her response was that too much tax money would be spent on the Stanwood-Camano area. Thus, she wanted to punish her own constituents as they might benefit from state tax dollars.
4. The repeal of the syrup tax, voted by Bailey, was to assist the little drive-in owner (her statement), but reality tells the public that McDonalds footed the lobbying bill to get that action passed.
I can give many more examples, but I hope you see just how ill-prepared Bailey is to function as anybody’s legislator.
