On Wednesday, Dec. 5, the Everett City Council voted unanimously to pass a reusable bag ordinance to be effective September, 2019. I applaud the Everett City Council for this progressive and responsible initiative. Everett is now the 25th city in Washington state to pass a reusable bag ordinance and the state is considering a state wide ban of single-use plastic bags. I suspect that knowing Everett has passed this will encourage the state to continue in its efforts.
The city will begin an education campaign so that citizens understand what is allowed and what is not. The most exciting part is an art contest for children to submit their ideas for a special city of Everett reusable bag.
This is a win-win action for our city. I’m proud that our city council has done the right thing for the environment and for citizens.
