It has been interesting to read about the proposed NASCAR racing in the Smokey Point area. We are located three miles away from that area and our no-kill animal shelter has just been closed down by the county due to noise from a few barking dogs. Not necessarily even shelter dogs, as tere are 20 other dogs living in private homes within 500 yards of our shelter – two of them guard dogs for construction equipment.
I find it most disturbing that the county finds it OK for the noise and congestion from NASCAR racing but not OK to have a few dogs bark when we are open. Now we have to spend thousands of our hard-earned dollars to fight this closure in Superior Court, and how much is that going to cost the county, or rather, how much of taxpayers’ dollars will be spent on that? For us to move and build a new no-kill shelter to house the old, sick and abused animals (our shelter take sin the hard to adopt) will cost us a million dollars, if not more. Maybe we could keep everyone happy and obtain that million dollars by providing a dog mascot for NASCAR. We’d even look after it for them. Or maybe one of the millions being spent by companies to sponsor a car, could instead be channeled our way. We’d even name the shelter after them.
