I would like to comment on the Machinist’s union strike that was recently given the go ahead by the union members. As a former Boeing employee laid off as a result of Sept. 11, to see this strike really upsets me. I am not a fan of unions in the first place and this strike is a reason why. Almost 30,000 Boeing employees have been let go due to Sept. 11 and these union members want job security. Economics 101 says if there is no demand, such as in today’s commercial airline industry, then you do not supply.
How can you honestly expect job security in such an up and down industry? Why can’t these striking union members to-be appreciate the fact they still have jobs during this time? Thirty thousand employees are let go with more to come and these employees are ungrateful for their jobs. Come on machinists, show a little decency and human emotion. Your former co-workers have it a whole lot tougher than you do right now.
