Of course everyone has done their share of cursing the snow, ice and other drivers during this last storm that hit the area. Just an observation I have made, but I can hardly be angry at other drivers, as I learned the hard way from personal experience. But I feel it should be passed onto the public about how important it is to clear the massive snow and ice build-up on top of their vehicles that they are bringing on the road.
Many years ago I was living out East when a very large storm hit the area. I never thought about the snow and ice build-up on top of my pickup truck, which had a bed cover. I learned quickly after I was driving down the interstate and this 8-foot long (who knows how many hundred pounds) block broke free in one piece and crashed onto the road behind me. This could have been catastrophic to anyone behind me.
So as I drive around here after this last storm I make sure I do not get behind anyone who has a “glacier” on top of their vehicles. It’s just a situation similar to a work vehicle that does not have its load secured.
Please just take the very few minutes required to sweep the snow off the top of your vehicles. Who knows what kind of tragic event you might avoid by doing so?
