Chris Lekas of Edmonds wrote on Tuesday that those not supporting the rush to war with Iraq are ignorant of the facts. That is an interesting point of view, given the Bush administration is prone to using misinformation, out-of-date reports and fabricated evidence in an attempt to build support for removing Saddam from office. Examples of this are Mr. Bush repeatedly stating the no-fly zone is a U.N. mandate. It is not and never has been. The no-fly zone was imposed by the United States and Great Britain after the Gulf War.
Colin Powell appears before the U.N. Security Council waving around a report he called “new information.” Hardly. It turns out to have been a 10-year-old document that British Intelligence lifted from a student’s paper.
Being against the war does not mean being against our troops. Being against the war does not mean being against America. Being against the war does not mean support for Saddam.
We are continually told Saddam is a threat to our way of life. I will argue that tax cuts for the rich, constant terror alerts to keep us in a heightened state of anxiety and a mad rush for the pointless slaughter of thousands is the real threat to our way of life.
