I would like to respond to the Tuesday letter, “It could be a dream come true”:
As a mother of two grown-up sons once in bike racing, I can tell you that the best place for a motocross race track is on undeveloped areas along side already noisy routes used by cars; like highways, freeways, and car race tracks. This preserves the wilderness environment saving our wildlife habitats.
Be it oil or clear-cutting, the lack of environmental appreciation and conservation has become an increasingly documented “alarm” facing our Planet Earth. We must think of our generation’s responsibility to future generations. Next year, when the writer’s son is 16, his dream will probably be car racing. He will not be interested in bikes anymore. But, the harm to the environment will have been done, never to be restored.
We traveled all over to bike race tracks in our camper, even taking ferries. The travel was not an inconvenience, but a great family adventure. One of the best local places for bike racing was then along a freeway onramp from Woodinville. Perhaps the County Council could help in seeking a similar location for a motocross park.
It appears to me that the Granite Falls elected and appointed staff officials, and local businesses, are failing to recognize and protect their most important possession, the precious pristine wilderness entrusted to them.
