Better to change plan than doctors

I have been a patient with the Everett Clinic since my Medicare began in 2010. First, I would like to say how pleased I am with the care I receive. When I first got Medicare, I was totally confused about a second insurance to pay for medications, doctor visits, labs, etc. I do not drive, and was really looking for some place I could get x-rays, blood work, etc., all in the same place!

My sister also began her Medicare, but hers is supplemented by Medicaid. The Everett Clinic offers my sister a zero co-payment on nearly all visits, procedures, labs, etc. The way I understand it is that the Everett Clinic as well as other providers contract with insurance companies, and every two years these contracts expire and they look for the best ones available to meet the needs of their patients as well as themselves.

Frankly, I am confused as to why anyone would want to change doctors, and health care, instead of changing their insurance plan. I know the one I was using has now charged me out of any affordable range. The monthly premium is over 110 percent of what I was paying two years ago.

Whether or not this has anything to do with President Obama, I don’t know. I only know that many affordable options are out there. Spend more time looking, and less time blaming.
